Knee Pain Relief - Acupuncture

Updated: Aug 20, 2022

Let’s talk knee pain. Whether from an acute injury, muscle tightness, or chronic pain from osteoarthritis and joint deterioration, the pain can be debilitating.

The good news is that acupuncture produces an anti-inflammatory response in the body, helps to loosen tight muscles which can improve the structure of the knee, as well as promote blood circulation.

Studies have shown that acupuncture was more effective in decreasing pain and swelling in osteoarthritis patients than Ibuprofen, due to the release of endorphins and oxytocin.

The side effects of acupuncture are also minimal when compared to the damaging results of chronic NSAID use or cortisone shots.

Over the past few months, I have seen many patients with knee pain, even “bone-on-bone” and were looking at immediate surgery. By utilizing acupuncture, cupping, and electro-acupuncture, 95% of people had significant pain relief. When knee arthritis is mild or moderate, a handful of sessions produce great results. When arthritis is more advanced, or “bone-on-bone,” ongoing acupuncture is recommended.

In addition to pain relief, most patients who receive acupuncture also report stress relief and better sleep due to melatonin release.

If you have knee pain, consider setting up a new patient consultation and assessment. Give us a call at 207-805-1350 and Ryann will set up a time that works best for you.
